Repulse Bay

One of the places we visited while in Hong Kong was Repulse Bay, located in the Southern part of the island. We traveled by bus, winding through slopes around the mountains. It was a bit of an oddly thrilling ride because the bus drivers seemed so hasty and didn't care at all that anything horrible could happen at any minute... A: we were traveling around a huge mountain B: the roads were narrow C: it was a double decker bus filled with people and D: it was a fast ride, we were even hitting tree branches poking out. This seems to be typical though of public transportation drivers in Hong Kong to be quick and speedy.

Once we made it, the blazing heat was scorching, feeling like 35°C. Thankfully, in Hong Kong, carrying an umbrella at all times was mandatory, rain or shine. Everyone had their umbrellas open to block the sun (kudos to anything that'll give me an excuse to not wear sunscreen!). If only I could do this in North America and not feel judged by people. Only the Asians understand...
We walked around the beach area where many people were tanning, as if they weren't already tanned enough living in such a humid climate area!

There were many beautiful apartments surrounding the beach, especially one known as the "building with a hole," which believed to allow positive feng shui and dragons to pass through to guard the area. Repulse Bay was also known to have one of the most expensive housing areas. Who wouldn't want to live here?! It was a pleasant place with naturistic views of the water and mountains. It was quite the place to settle down compared to the more popular districts in Hong Kong, clustered with tall buildings and people on every block.

  5. Hehe it's so true! In Asian countries it's totally normal to use an umbrella when it's sunny but it's definitely weird doing that here in the states. Cute outfit btw. I'm wearing almost the same thing today - striped tee dress with a chambray shirt tied-around my waist. Great minds think alike ;)

  12. You look so beautiful! I've never been to Hong Kong, but it's definitely on my travel list. I understand what you're saying about the umbrella thing. I'm from the inner city of NY and I've seen many Asians, growing up, do this and I used to wonder why, because it wasn't raining. Now, as an adult who wants to take care of her skin, I totally underhand and want to do it, too! Asians have a reputation of having good skin (my mom's friend's mom is in her 90s and looks in her 70s!) because they really take care of it. Here in the states it's more about the makeup than it is about the skincare. It's slowly starting to change for the better and I hope using an umbrella when it's super sunny becomes more common in the states, making it more comfortable doing it.

    Great post!

  13. Thank you! Visiting Hong Kong was such a big culture shock for me! It's a very populated and urban place. It was an interesting experience of lifestyle if you really get a chance to see day in and day out what an everyday dweller is accustomed to. It's a prosperous place for Westerners to find jobs, especially if they're interested in learning Chinese while at it! I wouldn't mind living there for a couple of years to gain some work experience, though with the constant humid weather, I don't know if I can really handle it!
I need to find out what products these asians are using to keep their skin so flawless and fair-toned! I'm trying to make it a habit now to put on sunscreen daily. It's because of my skin care products that have seemed to make my skin more sensitive and easily susceptible to getting tanned! >:( Yes, umbrellas FTW, they do no harm!

  14. You look so pretty, I love your shapeless striped dress! I wish I was one of those Asians who take amazing care of their skin -- I'm so jealous of them! Haha, I wanna visit HK one day! My mum has told me such amazing things about the place!
